This is an addition to all the masala movies being made in the last couple of years. It may well be an addition to the much coveted 100 cr club too. And looking at the kind of films that have made entry into this club, Chennai Express is certainly honest.

The comedy along with the action is rarely served with equal entertainment in today’s cinema. We discern Rohit Shetty for his mass leisure which includes cars fluttering from the unknown corners and comedy which isn’t slapstick but works.

Film should collect 60 cr nett worldwide by end of today which is simply outstanding. Going by the advance booking report, it seems that tomorrow will be another big day at box office. Herei is a collection report

Salman Khan, the king of Bollywood's Rs 100-crore club, often jokes about not being able to beat the box office record of his friend Aamir Khan's film, 3 Idiots.

To Salman Khan's bad luck, his bête noir Shah Rukh Khan has managed to achieve the feat that he must surely have his own professional eye on.

Shah Rukh's film Chennai Express has amassed Rs 212 crore (till August 26), shattering the record held by 3 Idiots, which had earned Rs 202.47 crore - the highest theatrical returns in India till now.

But Chennai Express director Rohit Shetty is not one to go to town about his success.
When asked to comment on the stupendous ride of the film at the box office, he said: "I am happy the film is doing well and huge revenue has been generated. It is very idiotic when someone says you have broken 3 Idiots' record.

"On record, I would like to say that 3 Idiots is a great film. You can't compare Chennai Express to 3 Idiots. Yes, my film's business has crossed 3 Idiots' revenue. But to make it sound like we are claiming that Chennai Express is a greater film or a better film is silly.
"If 3 Idiots had released today, it would have earned Rs 235 or Rs 240 crore."

SRK's latest film with its right dosage of action and comedy was lapped up by audiences both in India and abroad.

That the other big film, Once Upon A Time in Mumbai Dobara (which was released a week later) did not find favour with audiences helped Chennai Express immensely. The Akshay Kumar and Imran Khan-starrer directed by Milan Luthria only managed to garner Rs 57.5 crore in two weeks.

Interestingly, neither Chennai Express or OUATIMD fetched glowing reviews from critics. Yet the SRK film raced miles ahead of its competitor.
