Staring : Ajith, Tamannah, Viddarth, Santhanam, Vidyu Raman
Director : Siva
Music : Devi Sri Prasad
Production : Vijaya Productions

After a long time Thala Ajith is back with a rural mass entertainer and this time it is directed by Siva of Siruthai fame. Veeram is said to be about a man who believes in his virtues and consider family is more important than his life.
STORY:

Vinayakam (Ajith) and his brothers lead a happy life at a village in Ottanchathiram. They dictate terms in the area and they give 'rough treatment' to those who oppose them and those who do bad to others.

Vinayakam is opposed to he and his brothers getting married, since he fears that entry of women into the family might spoil the unity among siblings.

However, two of Vinayakam's brothers fall in love and they seek the help of an advocate friend (Santhanam) to convince Vinayakam to enter wedlock.

They also find a girl Kopperundevi (Tamannah) whom they feel would be the right match to their elder brother.

Thanks to their efforts, Vinayakam and Koppu (as she is called by her loved ones) fall for each other. But Koppu is shocked to know that Vinayakam is a ruffian.

For the sake of his love and his brothers, Vinayakam promises Koppu that he would never take violent path in life again. However, he is forced to take the sickle when he comes to know that Koppu and her family are in deep trouble.

ANALYSIS:

Director Siva has lived up to his promise that Veeram would be a grand treat to Ajith fans.

It's Ajith show all the way and a festival mood prevails all over the movie. Right from the actor's entry to intro song to punch dialogues to climax, Siva has ensured that Ajith fans have their moments in theatres.

Ajith's shines in each and every scene and his salt and pepper look, coupled with white shirt and dhoti, add more to the mood.

The dialogue he utters in the a(u)ction scene with Pradeep Rawat and his encounters with Atul Kulkarni are a treat to watch.

Tamannah has got a role to perform and she does a neat job. Vidharth, Bala and others as Ajith brothers add strength to their roles, while Santhanam tickles the funny bone with his one-liners.

Thambi Ramaiah and Nasser are adequate to their respective roles. Cinematography is bright and colourful, while Devi Sri Prasad scores big time in background score.

On the whole, Veeram is a Pongal treat to Ajith fans and those who love commercial films. It's a familiar storyline and there is nothing new in it. But the treatment and Ajith make all the difference.

Verdict: Go for it

Rating: 3.25/5

Thala Ajith's Veeram has been confirmed to release on January 10th, a few days ahead of Pongal and the film is set to receive a grand opening like previous Ajith starrers. Jilla is also releasing on the same day, thereby making it the most power-packed release day in recent years.

In Tamil Nadu, both the movies are neck-and-neck when it comes to garnering theaters and multiplexes are figuring out a way to accommodate both the movies in their best screens. Many single screens have also been sharing their shows between the two movies in an effort to reach out to both sets of fans and audiences.

In overseas markets, Veeram has so far been booked in 153 theaters across 13 counties. The final listings for Malaysia haven't been finalized yet for both Veeram and Jilla.

A split-up of Veeram's overseas screen counts is as follows

USA - 67 theaters
UK - 22 theaters
France - 10 theaters
Germany - 9 theaters
Denmark - 15 theaters
Switzerland - 7 theaters
Holland - 5 theaters
Sri Lanka - 6 theaters
Australia - 4 theaters
Singapore - 2 theaters
Canada - 3 theaters
South Africa - 2 theaters
Belgium - 1 theater

The trailer of Veeram was released yesterday as a New Year Special. It was first premiered on Sun TV and was later released in the online platform as well. The trailer has been met with a rousing response from Ajith fans.

A few of the takeaways from the trailer include Ajith's perennially mighty screen-presence, his authoritative dialogues and some powerful stunt scenes. The trailer also showcases some scenes of comedy, revelry, brotherly bonding, romance and a few song snippets too.

In all, Veeram promises to be a wholesome family entertainer with Ajith in a never-seen-before onscreen avatar. Decked in an all-white ethnic attire, Ajith seems to have carried the look really well.

The film is confirmed to release on the 10th of January.

The final shooting schedule of “Veeram” the most expected film of January 2014 concluded amidst mixed emotions and feelings . There were happy moods on the completion of the film ,and the movie gearing up for the scheduled release on Pongal . There were few tears rolling down here and there over missing all the fun and family camaraderie , that was evident all through the shooting and spilled all over the film . The producers were visibly happy with the film nearing completion on time , and heaped praises on Director Siva and his technical crew for the professional approach .”The professionalism of Ajith was highly infectious and here we are ready for the pongal release as assured ‘ beams the producers Venkatrama reddy and Bharathy reddy .

The Veeram teaser starts off with a set of goons running madly towards camera with weapons in their hands.

Just as you begin to wonder where they are heading, the camera slowly moves to its right revealing the gutsy hero who turns his head, in slow motion, towards the direction of the rowdies.

A simple, yet mass teaser that has everything in it to light up the enthusiasms of the hard core fans of Ajith. Devi Sri Prasad’s music adds to the flavour and pushes up the impact. Directed by Siva and produced by Vijaya Productions, the movie is all set to hit the screens by January 2014.
