54-year-old woman's body parts were found in suitcase in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: The city police recovered the chopped body parts of a 54-year-old woman from a posh apartment in Avina­shi Road on Thursday eve­ning. The victim Saroja had been missing since February 16.
According to police, Saroja had been living with her husband Natarajan and son Mahendra Kumar at their ground floor home in Raheja Apartments at Avi­n­ashi Road. After she had disappeared on Febru­ary 16, Natarajan had filed a missing person’s complaint with Race Course police.

On Thursday, residents of the apartment complex co­m­plained to the police that a foul smell was coming from an apartment located exactly opposite to Saroja’s home.

“When our team broke open the flat and went ins­ide, they found that the chopped up body parts of a woman was packed in two suitcases and kept under a cot in one of the bedrooms,” a senior police official said. “One of the suitcases was filled with concrete that was poured to conceal the id­e­ntity of the victim.”

Saroja’s family members soon firmed that she was the victim, sending shock waves in the neighbourhood. Police investigation revealed that the apartment where Saroja’s body was found was a service apartment rented out to a private firm where a 23-year-old youth stayed.

“We have found out that a 23-year-old youth, Yasser Arafat from Tirunelveli, had been staying in the apartment and was working on erecting cable TV towers in and around the city. However, he has been missing since this afternoon,” a police official said.

The police suspect that Yasser might be involved in the murder. and have launched a massive hunt for him. “We will know more details about the murder and what took place after we locate the youth,” a police official said.
