New Delhi: Jaywant Lele, former BCCI secretary passed away on Thursday night after suffering a heart-attack at a hospital in Vadodara. He was 75.

Lele is survived by his wife Anjali, son Ajit and daughter Amrita.

Lele had become the BCCI secretary in 1996 and was in charge when the match-fixing scandal broke out in 2000. During the 2001 board elections he lost his post to Niranjan Shah.

According to the media reports, Lele`s son Ajit said that his father died due to a heart attack. According to Ajit, he was also suffering from viral fever. He will be cremated today at 11am.

He had celebrated his 75th birthday on September 13, said former India stumper Nayan Mongia.

"He had celebrated his 75th birthday with his friends. It is very unfortunate. He was like a father to me. I always used to consult him on various issues. He had guided me from the age of 12," stated Mongia.

According to family sources, Lele, who had written an autobiography on his career as a cricket administrator, was not feeling well during his birthday celebrations because of a viral infection.

Lele had a diploma in mechanical and electrical engineering and had worked at Sarabhai Chemicals.

He became the honorary secretary of the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) in 1969.

Lele had also criticized N Srinivasan, BCCI chief-in-exile, a couple of times in the recent past.

New Delhi: N Srinivasan will chair a crucial meeting of the BCCI Working Committee scheduled to be held here on Friday.

As per reports, the BCCI Working Committee meet will begin around 10.30am this morning.

Sanjay Patel, secretary at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Thursday informed that Srinivasan will head the working committee on Friday.

"Srinivasan is the BCCI chief and he has already started working. There is no confusion as to who will chair Friday`s working committee meeting," said Patel.

Srinivasan forcefully stepped aside as president of the BCCI two months ago when his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan, the owner of the Chennai Super Kings, got arrested due his alleged involvement in spot-fixing and betting in the IPL matches.

Asked whether a fresh probe panel will be formed by the BCCI as demanded by one of the senior vice-presidents Niranjan Shah, Patel gave a terse reply, "I have got nothing to do with it. Ask Niranjan Shah about it! Any decision regarding this can only be taken by the Working Committee and IPL Governing Council. If somebody is talking, it is not well."

If reports are to be believed then several North Zone members may boycott the working committee meeting of the BCCI today.

Many members in the North Zone are of the view that N Srinivasan should not return as the president of the BCCI and are ready to skip the working committee meeting to show their displeasure over it.

There are reports that there is also a rift between the interim BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya and Srinivasan.
