South superstar Rajinikanth is apparently out of Pongal race. His much awaited film Kochadaiyaan (Vikram Simha in Telugu), which has been in making for a longtime, is supposed to hit the screens this Sankranthi ie, on January 10. And it was expected to clash with Mahesh Babu’s One directed by Sukumar which is also set to release on the same date. 

But going by the latest buzz, Rajini has backed out of this race and is likely to postpone his film’s release. 

On the other hand, Rajini was supposed to clash with Vijay’s Jilla and Ajith’s Veeram during Pongal. Rajini, who is known for his bigheartedness, wants to stay away from the race considering the requests of few distributors in Tamil Nadu. With this, Rajini has given way to Mahesh Babu in Telugu. 

An official confirmation on the postponement of Vikram Simha’s release will be made during the audio launch of the film on the eve of Rajini’s birthday on December 12. 

Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan’s fans were eagerly awaiting the release of Kochadaiyaan and Vishwaroopam 2, respectively, this year. But the latest info we have on these films is that it has postponed to next year.

The filmmakers of both these high budget films are reported to have said that since a lot of computer graphics is involved in the making, the decision to release the films next year has been made.

With this, several other films are gearing up to hit the screens in December, say trade sources.

Hrithik Roshan, who is playing a superhero in his upcoming film, Krissh 3, has watched portions of some south films. “They have such technical finesse that we could take a leaf or two out of it,” he says. But would he do a south remake, given that it is the flavour of Bollywood now? “That is always on the cards,” he says.

Ask him if there are any favourites down south with whom he would like to work, and Hrithik says, “There are so many. But I do want to work with Rajini sir. I’ve worked in a film with him years ago as a child artist. It would be an honour if I could work with him now. I have great respect for Rajini sir. He’s like a mentor. He’s taught me a lot just by example. He’s a real-life hero and is like a father figure to me.” In fact, the actor’s father, Rakesh Roshan, and Rajinikanth are friends, who have kept in touch over the years

Since long rumour mill is abuzz that superstar Rajinikanth will join politics. But, Rajini Sir himself has neither confirmed nor denied the news. Once again reports suggest that Rajinikanth will soon make his plunge into politics, after Narendra Modi has been declared as BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate for forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2014. Sources say the veteran actor is close to Modi.

Moreover, Tamil Nadu unit of BJP sent out feelers to superstar Rajinikanth. Making an appeal to the Tamil movie icon recently was BJP state president Pon Radhakrishnan who is in Trichy supervising preparations for a youth rally scheduled to be addressed by Modi on September 26.

The Tamil movie icon originally hails from Bangalore and did several Kannada movies ThappidaThala, Garjana, Maathu Tappada Maga, and Kumkuma Rakshe, to name a few and has a huge fan following across Karnataka. According to sources, the upcoming film Kochadaiiyaan starring the superstar, will be released on Rajnikanth's birthday on December 12.

Incoming reports now suggest that Director Shankar and Rajinikanth have held a secret discussion in-regard to their next movie. Shankar who was earlier linked up with Directing Vijay is now the prime candidate for the Superstar project. The duo have already delivered two epics in Sivaji and Enthiran.

Buoyed by the recent successes of its films down south, Eros International said it is has signed up Tamil superstar Rajinikanth for its next venture to be directed by KV Anand.The name, cast, crew and exact budget of the proposed movie are still being worked out.

“We have already signed the deal for Rajinikanth’s third movie (after Kochadaiyaan and Rana—both under production). This film will be made by KV Anand of Ko fame. The name of the film is yet to be decided,” said Kamal Jain, group chief financial officer—India, Eros International Media. “It’s a Rajini film so it (the budget) would be in the Rs 100-crore league.”

Cinematographer turned director Anand and Rajinikanth could not be reached for their comments.Eros has already signed up Rajinikanth for Kochadaiyaan, which is being shot using motion capture technology and is slated for release in the first quarter of fiscal 2014. Along with Kochadaiyaan,

Rajinikanth is also to work on Rana, whose shooting was stalled after the southern actor fell ill.
KV Anand, 47, last worked with Rajinikanth as the cinematographer for director Shankar’s Sivaji: The Boss, which released in 2007. His latest flick Maattrraan starring Suriya and Kajal Aggarwal was distributed by Eros.

In its latest earnings report, Eros said Tamil films played a major role in its healthy profits, particularly Vijay-starrer Thuppakki (The Gun), and had indicated that it would back more films down south.
“We have taken a lead in Hindi industry and we want to create the same footprint in Tamil. We want to capture the Tamil market by making at least three-four films a year,” said Jain.

Eros International acquires, co-produces, and distributes Indian language films in multiple formats. The company was incorporated in 1994 and listed in 2010. Eros coproduces 60% of its movies, while the rest are either acquired or produced.

Some of the big budget movies to which Eros has the rights include Ra One, Housefull, Housefull 2, Ready, Rockstar and Golmaal 3.
