The film Madras Cafe is a political spy thriller where John Abraham plays the role of an Intelligence Officer of the special forces. The ear of the film is set in the early 1990s, around the time of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination. It was hinted that the LTTE had a hand in the assassination of the Indian Prime Minister on May 21, 1991, at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu and the film is based against this backdrop.
