Ahemdabad: Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu will be produced before a special judge in Gandhinagar on Tuesday in connection with the sexual assault case against him.
The controversial godman was yesterday taken to Ahmedabad via Mumbai for interrogation in connection with sexual assault case lodged by two Surat-based sisters against him and his son.
72-year-old Asaram was grilled by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) about the allegations of rape, sexual assault and illegal confinement between 2001-2006.
The District and Sessions Court had given permission to Gujarat Police to take custody of Asaram on Friday itself, but fearing a backlash by his followers, Gujarat Police had waited for orders from their seniors on taking him to Ahmedabad.
The Gujarat police is expected to seek Asaram on remand when he is produced before the special judge today.
The Surat Police had recently registered complaints filed by two sisters - one against Asaram and another against his son Narayan Sai - of rape, sexual assault, illegal confinement and other charges.
The complaint against Asaram was transferred to Chandkheda police station in Ahmedabad as the incident took place in Asaram's ashram. Asaram brought to Ahmedabad, questioned by Gujarat ATS Asaram will be produced before a special judge in Gandhinagar on Tuesday in connection with the sexual assault case.
Asaram was arrested in August in Indore for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl at his ashram here.
Of the two Surat-based sisters, the elder sister has accused Asaram of repeated sexual assaults between 1997 and 2006, when she was living in his ashram on the outskirts of Ahmedabad city, while the younger one has accused Asaram's son Sai of repeated sexual assaults between 2002 and 2005 when she was living in Asaram's Surat ashram.
