The Seemandhra agitation found its echo in the Parliament as the MPs from Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra regions stalled the proceedings leading to their suspension from Lok Sabha for five days.
As many 11 Seemandhra MPs-- seven from the ruling Congress and four from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-- were suspended from the House for causing "grave disorder" and abusing the rules of the House.
The suspension was announced by the Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar after a prolonged ruckus marked by the Seemandhra MPs frequently storing the well of the House and obstructing the proceedings.
The MPs had disrupted every single day of the current session, protesting against the creation of a separate Telangana state.
A storm over their suspension caused many disruptions and forced the lower house to adjourn for the day. This comes a day after the government backtracked on a motion to suspend them, following strong objections from a combined Opposition.
The protesting MPs, from the coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, have created a ruckus in the House every day since the session began.
The government's motion for their suspension underscored its resolve to remove all bottlenecks - including its own MPs - that had held up key legislation including the Food Security Bill.
