The fight to get the maximum number of screens for Jilla and Veeram is continuing. And we have latest info on the scenario in the United States of America.

According to sources in the trade, Jilla will be showcased in 69 screens in the US while Veeram gets 67 screens. Both the movies are all set to premiere on January 9th, 2014 in the US and there is a mad rush among the movie buffs to catch the first show.

Jilla stars Ilayathalapathy Vijay in the lead role and Thala Ajith is the hero in Veeram. It has been years since fans got to see a head-on clash of these stars at the box office and it is now happening!

Jilla starring Tamil star Vijay is one of the most keenly awaited release of the upcoming Sankranthi season in Tamil. It’s getting a big release in Tamil despite having to face another biggie in the form of Ajith starrer Veeram. Yet the star doesn’t seem to mind as he has been prepared for it from some time. But it’s in the territories outside Tamil Nadu that the actor is facing situations that he hasn’t expected to and it’s here Mahesh Babu enters the scene.
Superstar Mahesh Babu has a big market not just in Andhra Pradesh but in Rest of India and Overseas as well. With the actor’s film also slated to release on the same day as Jilla, the latter is struggling to find decent number of screens in these places outside Tamil Nadu. For example in Karnataka and US, 1 Nenokkadine starring Mahesh Babu is getting big release whereas Jilla is finding it hard to get decent screens. Will Mahesh Babu with his 1 Nenokkadine end up spoiling the party of Jilla, we will know in few days’ time.

Staring : Ajith, Tamannah, Viddarth, Santhanam, Vidyu Raman
Director : Siva
Music : Devi Sri Prasad
Production : Vijaya Productions

After a long time Thala Ajith is back with a rural mass entertainer and this time it is directed by Siva of Siruthai fame. Veeram is said to be about a man who believes in his virtues and consider family is more important than his life.
STORY:

Vinayakam (Ajith) and his brothers lead a happy life at a village in Ottanchathiram. They dictate terms in the area and they give 'rough treatment' to those who oppose them and those who do bad to others.

Vinayakam is opposed to he and his brothers getting married, since he fears that entry of women into the family might spoil the unity among siblings.

However, two of Vinayakam's brothers fall in love and they seek the help of an advocate friend (Santhanam) to convince Vinayakam to enter wedlock.

They also find a girl Kopperundevi (Tamannah) whom they feel would be the right match to their elder brother.

Thanks to their efforts, Vinayakam and Koppu (as she is called by her loved ones) fall for each other. But Koppu is shocked to know that Vinayakam is a ruffian.

For the sake of his love and his brothers, Vinayakam promises Koppu that he would never take violent path in life again. However, he is forced to take the sickle when he comes to know that Koppu and her family are in deep trouble.

ANALYSIS:

Director Siva has lived up to his promise that Veeram would be a grand treat to Ajith fans.

It's Ajith show all the way and a festival mood prevails all over the movie. Right from the actor's entry to intro song to punch dialogues to climax, Siva has ensured that Ajith fans have their moments in theatres.

Ajith's shines in each and every scene and his salt and pepper look, coupled with white shirt and dhoti, add more to the mood.

The dialogue he utters in the a(u)ction scene with Pradeep Rawat and his encounters with Atul Kulkarni are a treat to watch.

Tamannah has got a role to perform and she does a neat job. Vidharth, Bala and others as Ajith brothers add strength to their roles, while Santhanam tickles the funny bone with his one-liners.

Thambi Ramaiah and Nasser are adequate to their respective roles. Cinematography is bright and colourful, while Devi Sri Prasad scores big time in background score.

On the whole, Veeram is a Pongal treat to Ajith fans and those who love commercial films. It's a familiar storyline and there is nothing new in it. But the treatment and Ajith make all the difference.

Verdict: Go for it

Rating: 3.25/5

Thala Ajith's Veeram has been confirmed to release on January 10th, a few days ahead of Pongal and the film is set to receive a grand opening like previous Ajith starrers. Jilla is also releasing on the same day, thereby making it the most power-packed release day in recent years.

In Tamil Nadu, both the movies are neck-and-neck when it comes to garnering theaters and multiplexes are figuring out a way to accommodate both the movies in their best screens. Many single screens have also been sharing their shows between the two movies in an effort to reach out to both sets of fans and audiences.

In overseas markets, Veeram has so far been booked in 153 theaters across 13 counties. The final listings for Malaysia haven't been finalized yet for both Veeram and Jilla.

A split-up of Veeram's overseas screen counts is as follows

USA - 67 theaters
UK - 22 theaters
France - 10 theaters
Germany - 9 theaters
Denmark - 15 theaters
Switzerland - 7 theaters
Holland - 5 theaters
Sri Lanka - 6 theaters
Australia - 4 theaters
Singapore - 2 theaters
Canada - 3 theaters
South Africa - 2 theaters
Belgium - 1 theater

The trailer of Veeram was released yesterday as a New Year Special. It was first premiered on Sun TV and was later released in the online platform as well. The trailer has been met with a rousing response from Ajith fans.

A few of the takeaways from the trailer include Ajith's perennially mighty screen-presence, his authoritative dialogues and some powerful stunt scenes. The trailer also showcases some scenes of comedy, revelry, brotherly bonding, romance and a few song snippets too.

In all, Veeram promises to be a wholesome family entertainer with Ajith in a never-seen-before onscreen avatar. Decked in an all-white ethnic attire, Ajith seems to have carried the look really well.

The film is confirmed to release on the 10th of January.

Venkat Prabhu directed Mankatha, Ajith’s landmark 50th film which showed the star in a new dimension. His salt and pepper look and the total dark shade of character still remain the talk in cinema circles.

In a recent interview, the Mankatha director says that he is planning to make a film with both Ajith and Vijay in lead roles as both of them have expressed their affirmation to work with him. However the director has a small issue to be resolved. He states that both Ajith and Vijay want to do the role of the antagonist which is kind of putting him in a tight situation to conjure up a story accordingly.

Venkat Prabhu quips that he is working on such a script where there is equal scope for performance for both the actors and the moment he firms that side, he would immediately get their dates.

When a film like that happens, it sure is going to be the biggest day in Tamil cinema. Let’s hope and wait!

Director Siva recently spoke at length about the upcoming Ajith starrer Veeram. He doesn't seem to be bothered about any impending pressure to succeed, following Arrambam's victory run at the box-office.

"I don't feel any insecurity or pressure. Ajith has remained the same since his early days till Arrambam. He doesn't believe in the numbers game any more and just wants to deliver something unique to each project he does. Heroism isn't on his mind too and you can feel such a surge of positive energy whenever he is around.

We have shot for more than 102 days and Ajith didn't back away until he saw complete satisfaction in my visage, irrespective of the time of the day we were shooting. I have a lot to learn from Ajith.

I assure that Veeram would be an ideal movie for Pongal with proper family sentiments, action and a never-seen-before Ajith. In addition to Ajith, all the other actors have good space as well and Ajith treated all his co-actors like his own family."

Bollywood Baadshah Shahrukh Khan who is currently shooting for his upcoming flick 'Happy New Year' caught up with director Vishnuvardhan who was the associate of Santosh Sivan while Shahrukh was doing 'Ashoka' in 2001 which also had Ajith doing a small role in the film. The Bollywood star spent some time with the director remebering the 'Asoka' days and also mentioned that he had loved the trailer of Ajith starrer 'Arrambam' though he hasnt watched the film yet.

Director Vishnuvardhan tweeted after meeting the star "Met up with SRK, loved catching up and remembering 'Asoka' days. He loved the 'Arrambam' trailer. Cheers guys."

While a lot of ' Arrambam' was shot in Mumbai, the director was often seen in Mumbai. With the movie released and running successfully in the theatres, one wonders why Vishnuvardhan is still visiting Mumbai often. Is the director's next a bollywood flick with a top star?

After the majestic success of Arrambam, Thala Ajith’s name is almost everywhere. The actor is currently linked up with the prestigious Dhoom franchise. Rumour Mill has it that Thala might be perfect ploy for the 4th installment of the Dhoom franchise.
Though Dhoom 3 itself is yet to release the makers have already started setting their sights on the future. Being an avid car and bike racer himself Thala would fit the role perfectly. Add to that the pilot license which could also be used in the movie. Thala’s recent action sequences Billa 2, Mankatha and Arrambam have caught the Bollywood eye and if things pan out well we could very well see the Bollywood debut of Thala in Dhoom 4 !!

It has been the season of Arrambam. The Ajith Kumar’s movie has set a positive atmosphere in the industry with his movie breaking a few records and making good collections.

Now, his counterpart Vijay’s next movie Jilla seems to be on the same track, as the latest flick has started the business on a positive note straight away.

Veteran producer RB Choudary had opened the territory wise sale of his Jilla, and within few hours, all areas were sold out! No film in recent time has been sold out so fast, at a time when big films take time to get the right prices.

The makers of Jilla had decided to sell the distribution rights of several regions a few days ago. They started the same last weekend. But what surprises them was the competition to get a piece of Jilla from many distributors. It made producer RB Chaudhary to make his mind of selling all the theatrical rights. In less than two days, the producer earned a handsome money by selling the theatrical rights. The underlining part of the story is that the speed in which the distribution rights were sold stunned the industry. The producer and the entire team are very happy with the development. Regions like Chennai, NSC(North Arcot-South Arcot – Chengalpet), Coimbatore and overseas rights have fetched good money to the makers of Jilla. The price paid for the rights, as always, are under wraps.

Jilla is a mass multi-starrer featuring Ilayathalapathy Vijay and Mohanlal and directed by Nesan. The film also has Kajal Aggarwal, Soori, Mahat and others. The film has music by D Imman, and audio is likely to be launched by the end of the month.

Recently Vijay and Kajal Aggarwal were in Japan shooting a romantic song. Now they are shooting another song in a set created in a Chennai studio. Later they will be leaving for Madurai for completing some patchwork scenes.

Meanwhile post-production work of Jilla is going on in full swing. Mohanlal will be dubbing in his own voice for the film. The CG work is also going on simultaneously and producer is trying to get first copy ready and censored by December end.

The 1st schedule of filming began on 2 June 2012 with portions involving Ajith Kumar, Nayantara and Arya. The filming was expected to proceed until the end of the month in Mumbai, but later cancelled due to monsoon and location was shifted to Bangalore and later in Hyderabad. On 7 September, during the second schedule, Taapsee Pannu joined the crew and began shooting her portions.

During the next schedule that started on 2 November 2012, filming was held in Mumbai and its suburban locations. While shooting an action sequence, Ajith Kumar was injured, suffering an ligament tear. Despite his injuries, Ajith Kumar continued shooting.
