Happy Birthday Lion of India Narendra Modi

Ahmedabad: As the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi turns 63 on Monday, the Gujarat Chief Minister thanked everyone for their good wishes and blessings.

Modi, who visited his 94-year-old mother Hira Ba to seek blessings, said that mother’s blessings is one of life's great opportunities.

“I have faith that people's blessings won't go waste, it will give me strength to go on with my work,” the BJP poster boy said on his birthday.

Modi was on September 13 appointed as BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, despite the most senior leader LK Advani's opposition.

The formal announcement was made by BJP president Rajnath Singh after the parliamentary board meeting, which was attended by Murli Manohar Joshi and Sushma Swaraj, who too were said to be opposed to Modi's project at this juncture, but finally toed the majority line.

Modi, who once sold tea in a railway station in Gujarat, said it was a matter of pride that the BJP had catapulted him -- despite his origin from "a humble family" -- as the prime ministerial candidate.
