There are rumours that the release date of Zanjeer has been postponed once again. The film has been facing delays ever since it was launched. It had its share of legal tangles and shooting delays.
Just when the release date was finalized for September 6, Amit Mehra son of late Prakash Mehra was replaced as the producer by his brothers Sumeet and Puneet.
The film is joint venture with Reliance Entertainment and Flying Turtle.
A couple of developments in the Telugu and the Hindi film industry have impacted the release date. The release of Ram Charan’s Yevadu was slated for the end of July. But now, it has been moved by three weeks to August 21. This would mean that it will be too close to Zanjeer’s release.
As per tinsel ville insiders, it will be too much for Ram to have two of his films arriving back to back. Not only that, Ram Charan will also have to worry about the release of the Telugu version of Zanjeer titled Thoofan. It is a scenario that the distributors and the exhibitors also want to avoid.
Coming to Bollywood, the release of Yash Raj’s Shuddh Desi Romance has been pushed ahead. While the Sushant Singh-Parineeti Chopra film cannot be a direct threat, the Manish Sharma directed movie cannot be totally ignored.
When approached, Apoorva Lakhia pointed out nearly 12 films released this week. “It’s impossible to get a single release unless it features the big four or five actors,” he says. As for Zanjeer, he insists it will release on September 6, as scheduled earlier.
