Recruitment guidelines for public sector issued

Thiruvananthapuram: The government has issued an order making certain clarifications and modifications regarding the recruitment guidelines in public sector undertakings.  Hereafter, PSUs will ensure that qualifications and eligibility of candidates are verified before calling them for a written test or skill test.

The government came up with such an order as lakhs of candidates apply for jobs online without requisite qualifications thereby causing waste of time and money to officials and applicants alike.

The Secretary of Public Sector Restructuring and Internal Audit Board (RIAB) had requested the government for a change in recruitment guidelines. The order recommends that candidates with qualifications higher than the minimum required shall also be considered. According to K. Padmakumar, managing director of RIAB, their role has always been to monitor and examine if there was any foul play by the PSUs.

“Recently, one of the PSUs in the capital city invited applications for around 40 posts for their container freight station coming up at Vallarpadam. Around 76, 000 came down for the written test. But when invited for the scrutiny of their certificates, the applicants’ number dwindled to 1000,” Padmakumar told DC.

Applicants who had given the wrong disclosure were enraged over their chances being dwindled, but when RIAB officials explained to them about the wrong disclosure’s they had made while applying online, they realised their mistake.

However, RIAB is apprehensive about the latest GO as when PSUs invite applications for peon/clerk vacancies, the chances of several lakhs   sending their applications are high.

The GO also states that the maximum number of candidates to be called for interview after skill test shall be 1:15. Maximum marks for the interview may be limited to 20 percent, 80 percent being allotted to written test/skill test. On conclusion of the interview, the interview board should declare the results and also have them published on the PSUs website on the same day.
