Sanjay Dutt has been the darling of the masses over the years. Whatever might be his off screen image, he is always loved on the big screen. The past few months has been very tough for the star as he was jailed for his involvement in illegal arms. In all this huge crisis and media chaos, his latest film Policegiri has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.

Story : The story of Policegiri is like any other good versus bad Hindi film, where a honest police officer fights against all odds to save the innocent. Rudra (Sanjay Dutt) is a angry and honest police officer who is posted in the sensitive border area of Nagapuram. As soon as he lands there, Rudra finds out that the city is run by a dreaded gangster called Nagori Subramanyam(Prakash Raj). Rest of the story is as to how Rudra Pratap fights Nagoori Subryamanyam and brings back peace into the city.

Positive points :
Policegiri is an out and out Sanjay Dutt film. After a long gap, Sanjay Dutt plays a powerful role and carries the film on his shoulders. Even at this age he looks fit and carries out action sequences quite well. The one liners mouthed by him are a specially worth a mention. His style, dialogue delivery and action scenes will please his fans quiet a bit.

Prakash Raj gets yet another negative role and plays his part well. Though he seems a bit loud in many scenes, he quite good competition to Sanjay Dutt in every department. Scenes designed between him and Sanjay Dutt are very well executed.

Second half of the movie picks up pace and gets interesting. Policegiri has enough over the top action which will keep the front benchers hooked onto their seats.

Negative points :
Firstly the female lead, Prachi Desai is a big mismatch opposite Sanjay Dutt. She looks like his daughter rather than his wife. Policegiri has full on over the top sequences and many unnecessary scenes.

There is too much of action in the film which might put you off some times. The movie looks even more sillier when Rajpal Yadav’s comedy track in on. The first half is quite ordinary and lacks focus. Length of the film is also quite painful as it takes for ever to finish.

Cars fly around mercilessly and director just finds an excuse to blow them up. There is absolutely nothing for regular entertainment seekers and youngsters as this movie is just an over the top action festival.

Technical Points :
Music of Poilegiri is quite decent. Three out of four tracks are well composed and also shot nicely. Screenplay of the movie lacks punch and goes haywire. Some action sequences are good, but rest of the fights are over the top. Editing is OK and so is the background music. Director K S Ravikumar, who is a renowned name down south, has only focused on playing with Sanjay Dutt’s image.

He has particularly made sure that Sanjay Dutt is elevated like Salman Khan in Dabangg and Ajay Devgan in Singham. Though he tries his best he does not make you hold on to your seats. Camera work is decent and showcases the nativity well.

Verdict :
On the whole, Policegiri is one film which is totally aimed at the B and C centers. The movie will tend to get decent openings in interior parts of India because of Sanajy Dutt’s current situation. But for other regular viewers, even Sanjay Dutt’s charisma and his strong fan base cannot stop the film from sinking.

Movie Rating: 2/5
