CHENNAI: The Chennai Traffic Police (CTP) appear to be acting seriously on the complaints they receive through their Facebook page and giving prompt update of the actions they have taken.
The CTP's Facebook page has more than 46,000 'likes' and acts as a virtual police station. A separate officer is posted to ensure that complaints from the page are directed to the local station. The local inspector must send a reply to the additional commissioner's office with an update on the actions taken. This will be updated on the CTP's Facebook page.
The police have given updates on several actions they have taken on complaints received through their Facebook page.
Acting on an FB complaint, the CTP recently placed concrete blocks and barricades at the SRP Tools junction to prevent commuters from travelling on the wrong side of the Old Mahabalipuram Road.
The police have taken up a special drive to check this practice. They booked 75 cases and collected a fine of Rs 7,500 between July 31 and August 10.
"We have strictly warned offenders not to drive on wrong side in the future and advised them to ply on the main road of Rajiv Gandhi Salai to take the 'U' turn at Tidel Park signal to reach their destination," said the FB post by the police.
Acting on another complaint, the CTP posted a constable near Muhammad Sathak College on the Medavakkam Road for regulating share autos. The share autos regularly move on the wrong side of the road and halt wherever it is convenient for them. The police have booked 44 cases since the complaint was received and have collected Rs 4,400 as fine.
